Dokładnie pamiętam tamten dzień, 13 marca 2013 roku. Pamiętam, co poczułam, gdy ogłoszono wybór kolejnego, 266. papieża. Tę myśl i to uczucie zachowuję do dziś: FRANCISZEK TO MÓJ PAPIEŻ. 

Pamiętam tamto przynaglenie do modlitwy i niezwykłe przekonanie o jedności z całym Kościołem; pamiętam nieopisaną radość i pewność doniosłości chwili, gdy wybór został ogłoszony Kościołowi i światu; pamiętam uczucie miłości do nowego Papieża, które pojawiło się niespodziewanie i zaskoczyło swoją intensywnością i głębią; pamiętam pogodę, klimat towarzyszący modlitwie, miejsce, na którym stałam w kościele…

Dzisiaj, po ośmiu latach, mogę z całym przekonaniem powiedzieć o moim Papieżu, że:

Jest niedoścignionym wzorem do naśladowania w poważnym do bólu traktowaniu Ewangelii i życiu nią, odważnym stawianiu w centrum działań Jezusa i robieniu dokładnie wszystkiego, BY ŚWIĘTE IMIĘ JEZUS BYŁO ZNANE AŻ PO KRAŃCE ZIEMI. Franciszek to człowiek spójny, zintegrowany wewnętrznie i zewnętrznie, a jego działania zogniskowane są na Tym, który w niemal widzialny sposób jest jego Panem, tj. na Jezusie Chrystusie.

Poprzez swój przykład pokazuje całemu Kościołowi i przyglądającemu się mu światu, kim jest konkretny człowiek dla Jezusa, kim jest osoba ludzka wobec Ewangelii. Nieustannie dowartościowując najuboższych, zagubionych, imigrantów, ludzi wyrzuconych poza margines i niebiorących udziału w sprawiedliwym podziale dóbr, Franciszek ze wszystkich swoich sił odpowiada na pytanie, co w danej sytuacji zrobiłby Jezus.

Ściąga na siebie całą lawinę hejtu. Jest wręcz znienawidzony przez wielkie grupy ludzi, ale przede wszystkim tych, którzy reprezentują tradycjonalistyczną, zaściankową, pozbawioną życia religijność i podejście do wyznawanej wiary. Wyzywany przez nich od antychrystów, modernistów, zdrajców Kościoła, a przez to jeszcze bardziej wiarygodny i przepełniony Bożym autorytetem dla tych, dla których Ewangelia jest żywa i dająca codziennie nowe życie. Z jednej strony odtrącony, z drugiej szanowany i doceniany – Franciszek, człowiek i Papież, stojący w wyłomie.

Jest mistrzem burzenia schematów, schodzenia z wygodnych kanap przyzwyczajeń i opuszczania nieewangelicznych stref komfortu i rutyny. Do dziś stoją przed oczami wielu jego czarne, znoszone buty widoczne spod białej sutanny… Są znakiem wręcz kłującym w oczy, że nic nie musi i nie powinno wyglądać tak samo i nie jest niezmienne, poza jednym: Bogiem i Jego Ewangelią. Właśnie on ośmielił się wielokrotnie pokazać wierzącym, że wtórne i służebne ze swej natury formy, zasady, sposoby odniesienia do Boga powinny być w pełni podporządkowane wobec niezmiennej i łaskawej miłości Jezusa. Zatem, jeśli przestają ją ukazywać człowiekowi i światu, muszą być zmieniane.

To on upomniał się o charyzmatyczne skrzydło Kościoła, nadał mu wyróżniający i zobowiązujący status, wskazując na strumień łaski, który go zainicjował i porusza nim, czyli na Ducha Świętego. Powołując do istnienia służbę Charis wskazał na rolę charyzmatycznej odnowy Kościoła, ale też dał wszystkim identyfikującym się z nią ochronę swojego papieskiego płaszcza i poczucie bycia przygarniętym, akceptowanym i potrzebnym w całym, wielkim organizmie K.K. Tak przywrócił wiarę w to, że Kościół przyznaje się do charyzmatyków oraz że nie są oni kulami u nóg wielu proboszczów czy zmuszonych do opieki nad nimi duszpasterzy. Przeciwnie, są bardzo potrzebni Papieżowi i Kościołowi.

Jego osoba ma wręcz magnetyczny urok, gdyż nie boi się wyjmować wielu drzazg z oczu Kościoła, wykazywać błędów u osób nietykalnych wcześniej ze względu na pełnione stanowiska i zajmowane urzędy, walczyć ze współczesnym faryzeizmem, a jednocześnie wszystko co robi, jest wypełnione głęboką miłością do najsłabszych i troską o prawdziwe dobro Kościoła. Swoją postawą, niewątpliwie, przyciąga uwagę. W błysku fleszy często widać jego szczery, promienny uśmiech, jednak baczny obserwator zauważy także, zamyślone spojrzenie człowieka, który dźwiga ciężki krzyż grzechów Kościoła.

Ewangeliczny radykalizm Franciszka bulwersuje jeszcze bardziej, jak wcześniejsze, wprowadzone przez niego zmiany do papieskiej etykiety. Przejawia się on także krzykiem o nowe otwarcie ekumeniczne, braterstwo oraz miłość wobec każdego człowieka. Jego wołanie jest słyszane i dostrzegane, a także głośno oprotestowywane, bo przebiega ponad podziałami. Patrząc na działanie Papieża, widać przede wszystkim pragnienie jedności, które jest tak silne, jak jego niezależna od tego czy jest katolikiem, chrześcijaninem, muzułmaninem, żydem czy niewierzącym, miłość do człowieka. I znów, także i w dziedzinie jednania zwaśnionej ludzkości, Franciszek jest wzorem.

W ten sposób mogłabym jeszcze długo pisać o moim Papieżu. Jednak na znak tego, co jest najważniejszą moją chrześcijańską i katolicką powinnością, tego i każdego innego dnia, zakończę. Czas się pomodlić za człowieka, który jest Piotrem, skałą i potężnym znakiem dla naszych czasów, upływających pod banderą podtopionej łodzi Kościoła. Przyznam jednak, że dla mnie osobiście, modlitwa za Franciszka to nie tylko obowiązek, to przywilej i czysta przyjemność. Modlę się bowiem za człowieka, którego kocham.

"Obyś skutecznie mu błogosławił i rozszerzył jego granice, a ręka Twoja była z nim, i obyś zachował go od złego, a utrapienie jego się skończy!” ( por. 1 Krn 4, 9–10).

FRANCIS, MY POPE

I remember exactly that day, 13 March 2013. I remember what I felt when the election of the next, 266th Pope was announced. That thought and that feeling have always been with me up to the present: FRANCIS IS MY POPE.

I remember the urge to pray and the extraordinary conviction of unity with the whole Church; I remember the indescribable joy and the certainty of the significance of the moment when the election was announced to the Church and to the world; I remember the feeling of love for the new Pope which appeared unexpectedly and surprised me with its intensity and depth; I remember the weather, the atmosphere of prayer, the place where I stood in church…

Today, after eight years, I can say with conviction about my Pope that:

He is an unsurpassed role model in taking extremely seriously the Gospel and living in it, in courageously putting Jesus at the centre of actions and in doing exactly everything to MAKE THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS KNOWN IN EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD.

Francis is a coherent man, integrated internally and externally, and his actions are focused on the One who in an almost visible way, is his Lord, it is on Jesus Christ. By his example, he shows the whole Church and the watching world who each man is for Jesus, who the human being is for the Gospel. Constantly valuing the poorest, the lost, the immigrants, the marginalized and those who do not participate in a just distribution of wealth, Francis with all his strength answers the question of what Jesus would do in a given situation.

He triggers an avalanche of hate. He is even hated by large groups of people, but mostly by those who represent a traditionalist, parochial, lifeless religiosity and approach to their faith. He is called by them an antichrist, a modernist, a traitor to the Church, and thus even more credible and filled with divine authority for those for whom the Gospel is alive and gives new life every day. On the one hand shunned, on the other respected and appreciated – Francis, the man and the Pope, standing in the gap.

He is a master of shattering the patterns, getting off from the comfortable couches of habits as well as leaving non-evangelical comfort zones and routines. To this day, many people still see his black, worn-out shoes that noticeable under his white cassock… They are a striking sign, reflecting that nothing has to and should look the same and is unchangeable, except for one thing: God and His Gospel. It was he who repeatedly dared to show believers that the secondary and servile by their very nature forms, principles, ways of relating to God should be fully subordinated to the unchanging and gracious love of Jesus. Therefore, if they cease to show it to people and the world, they must be changed.

It was he who stood up for the charismatic wing of the Church, gave it a distinctive and obliging status, pointing to the stream of grace that initiated him and moves him, and namely the Holy Spirit. By establishing the service „Charis”, he pointed to the role of the charismatic renewal of the Church, but he also gave all those identifying with it his papal protection and the feeling of being taken in, accepted and needed in the whole, enormous organism of the Catholic Church. This is how he restored faith in the fact that the Church admits charismatics and that they are not a ball and chain to many vicars or priests forced to care for them. On the contrary, they are much needed by the Pope and the Church.

He has almost a magnetic charm because he is not afraid to remove many motes from the eyes of the Church, to show the mistakes of people previously untouchable due to their positions and offices, to fight against contemporary Phariseeism, and at the same time everything he does is filled with deep love for the weakest ones and with concern for the true welfare of the Church. With his attitude, he undoubtedly attracts attention. In the light of flashes one can often see his sincere, radiant smile, but a careful observer will also notice the thoughtful look of a man who carries the heavy cross of the sins of the Church.

Francis' evangelical radicalism is even more shocking than his previous changes introduced to papal etiquette. It also manifests itself in the desire for new ecumenical opening, fraternity and love towards every human being. His desire is heard and perceived, and loudly protested, as it transcends divisions. Looking at the Pope's actions, one can see above all a desire for unit that is as strong as his love for human beings regardless of whether they are Catholics, Christians, Muslims, Jews or non-believers. Again, even in the area of the reconciliation of conflicted humanity, Francis is a role model.

In this way, I could write about my Pope for a long time. But as a sign of what is my most important Christian and Catholic duty today and every other day, I will end here. It is time to pray for the man who is Peter, a rock and a powerful sign for our times, which are passing under the flag of the Church's drowned boat. I will admit, however, that for me personally, praying for Francis is not just an obligation, it is a privilege and a pure pleasure. For I am praying for the man I love.

May You oh God truly bless him and extend his lands, Your hand be with him to keep harm away. His distress will then cease (compare: 1 Chronicles 4, 9–10).
